Valen is anything but a stereotypical Black Dragon. He is certainly apt at tactical magic, and an able warrior, but the resemblance ends there. He is a great admirer of the White Dragon, and has been taking secret lessons in healing magic from Gabrielle, and is almost as skilled as she in the arts of healing.

The end result leaves Valen as a formidable opponent and a valuable ally in any situation. He is quick to react, and even quicker to forgive once the danger has passed and the penitent party apologizes for his offenses. He is a firm believer in hope and forgiveness, and will exercise it whenever possible.

Valen is respected by most, feared by the rest, and proceeds to live his life quietly and calmly in the wake of his reputation.
